shutterstock 159175349 300x272 - InjectablesThere are various types of fillers available today. Each injectable comes with its own set of pros and cons. All injectable fillers are solutions placed under the skin to provide lift and volume in targeted regions of the face, thus erasing folds and smoothing lines. These treatments are relatively quick and easy ways to add volume and minimize wrinkles. Most are generally completed in less than 30 minutes, leaving patients with a rejuvenated appearance that can last anywhere from three months to a couple of years.

The larger the variety of injectable fillers available, the better equipped the practitioner is to optimize the results to fit the individual needs of the patient. Patients will need to sit down with their plastic surgeon to go over all available options, but a brief rundown of options are as follows: fat and blood based, calcium based, hyaluronic acid, and poly-l-lactic acid.

Within the hyaluronic-acid family are the popular brands Restylane and Juvederm. These fillers plump up targeted areas and are made of complex sugars natural to the body, retaining water to act like an inflatable support cushion. One advantage is that they’re easily reversible and considered a safe substance found in nearly every living organism; this is why they are so compatible with the human body.

Radiesse is another injectable option, best intended for deeper fills such as the cheekbone region. It’s also great for reducing the jowls and the deeper folds around the mouth. Instead of hyaluronic acid, Radiesse is calcium based, utilizing hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a liquid carrier. The main benefit of this product is the promotion of collagen, which continues for up to 12 months, which is generally longer than hyaluronic-acid fillers.

Fat injections are pricey but are one of the safer and longer-lasting injectable options. Results from fat injections have been known to yield permanent results (though the natural effects of aging do continue to occur).

Regardless of which option you and the doctor decide on, our staff’s top priority is to ensure the process is as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
