Chin Implant – Dr. Burton Sundin & Dr. Reps Sundin, Washington D.C.
In the course of aging, the chin is one area that begins to sag before other areas of the skin. The following are some characteristics of a chin that displays signs of aging:
- Asymmetry due to unwanted fatty deposits
- The appearance of droopy, fatty skin under the jaw
- Double chin, even if you are normal weight in other areas of your body
A chin implant with Washington D.C. Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sundin can balance your facial symmetry.
The chin and nose directly affect each other and one can cause the other to look disproportionate. A chin implant also helps to define the jaw line to create a more clear distinction between the chin and the neck. Often a chin implant procedure may be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures such as rhinoplasty (nose surgery) or liposuction of the neck. Chin implants can increase facial harmony and boost self-confidence in people with a weak chin.
With these factors in mind, in many instances one can attain a younger, stronger, more powerful face emphasized by a solid chin.
The Procedure: Chin Implants
Chin implant surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with a sedative or under general anesthesia. The incision may be made under the chin or inside of the mouth and the implant will be placed directly on the original chin bone. Any scarring will be hidden. The procedure itself takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour. The chin implant size and shape will vary based on each patient’s individual needs. Sutures placed on the outside, on the skin, will be removed in 5 to 7 days, while intra-oral incision (inside the mouth) sutures will dissolve on their own.
Results of Chin Implant Surgery
Your results will continue to evolve for several weeks and even months as you continue to heal. In most cases, the improvement is subtle but substantial, meaning others may not be able to pinpoint the change, but instead will be able to note an improved confidence and facial aesthetic.
