unspecified 12 300x295 - RhinoplastyNasal problems can be a source of constant embarrassment and can affect your quality of life. Does your nose have aesthetic or functional issues? If so, rhinoplasty may be an effective solution.

Rhinoplasty is a popular form of plastic surgery used to correct a number of nasal issues. It can alter the nose’s internal architecture to create aesthetic balance for the face. This includes making a nasal tip longer or shorter, removing a hump, and altering the base. It can also be used to correct breathing problems.

Part of your consultation with Doctors Burton Sundin and Reps Sundin will be a nasal evaluation to determine the nature of the issues, along with their root causes. The appearance of a “big nose” can be attributed to factors such as a larger nasal tip, a larger nasal base, or a too-wide bridge. To help your plastic surgeon understand your aesthetic goals, it’s helpful to bring pictures of noses that you would like yours to look like.

Your rhinoplasty procedure can last anywhere from one to three hours. The length of time it will take relates to the exact methods used by the plastic surgeon. For your surgery, you’ll typically be put under with general anesthesia. However, in some cases, local anesthesia is all that’s necessary.

Depending on the nature of the corrections, your plastic surgeon will elect to use either the open or closed technique. Open means an incision is made across the columella and the skin is lifted for greater access. Closed means the incisions are made within the nostrils and the skin does not need to be lifted.

Once one or more incisions have been made, the nose’s bone, cartilage, and/or soft tissue are altered. After these alterations have been completed, the incisions are closed with medical stitches.

Bruising and swelling are normal parts of rhinoplasty recovery. Full swelling reduction may take a number of months, and because of this, it’s best to take proper care of the area during the healing process. Once the bruising and swelling dissipates, you’ll be able to appreciate and enjoy your new nose.
